Hyein Anne Kwon is an illustrator and graphic designer based in Calgary. She received her Bachelor of Design in Illustration & Character Design from Alberta University of the Arts in May 2026. Inquisitive by nature and analytical by instinct, she moves between cultures: Canada, the U.S., South Korea, with a sensitivity to how identity is quietly constructed through fashion, beauty, and everyday ritual. Her work is bold where it needs to be, and delicate where it counts.

Selected as one of the 21 Next Generation Artists of Alberta, her editorial and lifestyle illustration spans fashion and beauty, mapped through a cultural lens. Her approach draws on public art, communicating complex messages simply, with an eye toward how different audiences will read them. That same instinct carries into urban planning, where understanding the audience shapes which cultural messages land and how. She begins graduate studies in Urban Planning at the University of Calgary this August 2026, following her eyes for how communities take shape.​​​​​​​

Integrating the Bow River with plum blossoms, symbols of resilience in Chinese culture, the work depicts diverse community members engaging in cultural activities together. It envisions Chinatown as an inclusive destination where visitors of all backgrounds can experience and appreciate Chinese traditions within this historic neighborhood.
Blossom Mural Commissioned by the Oi Kwan Foundation. As spring arrives, the mural on the Oi Kwan Foundation's community garden comes alive. Butterflies, bumble bees, and plum blossoms bustle together in the warming season. Starting from the corner, the flowers gradually bloom as the season gets warmer. The branches in the mural act like panels, shifting the scene from one moment to the next.
