Linnea has her BFA from the Alberta University of the Arts, major: Jewellery & Metalsmithing. She is now painting, her work is in the form of contemporary landscapes & details of nature.

"As an artist, I'm drawn to the fluidity and spontaneity of watercolour, a medium associated with tradition. I push the boundaries of tradition by using nontraditional watercolour substrates, infusing my work with contemporary energy. Unconventional use of watercolour & inks allow for unexpected textures, layers & interactions, giving the paintings a modern feel that contrasts with the medium’s historic reputation. My work seeks to reframe watercolour within the context of contemporary art, challenging preconceived notions of watercolour."

Brumara My intention, to spark personal recollections in the viewer from an unconventional perspective, moving pigments that are suspended, extracting pigments, manipulating the smallest pigments create layers of transparent colour, playing on depth with slight transitions to add complexity and mystery within the surface, leaving a translucent history. I see these layers as a metaphor for life; the pigmented puddles are the quiet moments of rest, absorbing over time, the layers we create from memories.
Pulled from the clouds My work is reframing watercolour, challenging preconceived notions of what this medium can achieve. I like to refer to artwork painted in Contemporary Watercolour and Inks as “living works of art.” Translating places into pigments, into works of art that hold a place within them a connection that resonates with the viewer! Controlled pigments only to a glimpse of premeditation, ending in energy transformation!

I was first inspired to create Ripple Effect Series by watching a water drop hitting the surface of a calm body of water.
