Painting

High School Art Teacher · BFA · Class of 1999

My artistic practice is deeply rooted in faith, family, and the beauty I find in the natural world. I work primarily in mixed media, combining painting with materials and processes that allow me to explore texture, layering, and personal symbolism. Flowers appear repeatedly in my work, not simply as decorative forms, but as reflections of growth, resilience, memory, beauty, and the changing seasons of life.

My faith is the foundation from which I create. It shapes the way I see beauty, purpose, relationships, and the world around me. Family is equally central to my life and artistic identity, influencing both the stories I tell and the values I hope my work communicates. Through my art, I seek to create pieces that feel contemplative, hopeful, and connected to something greater than ourselves.

As both an artist and an art educator, creativity extends beyond my own studio practice. One of the most meaningful aspects of my journey is encouraging young people to discover their own creative voices. I believe art gives children and young artists a way to express what they may not always be able to put into words, while building confidence, curiosity, and imagination.

Ultimately, my work is an extension of the life I am continually building—one grounded in faith, nurtured by family, inspired by flowers and the natural beauty of the Caribbean, and enriched by the privilege of inspiring the next generation to make art.
